This is the second book in the Edge Chronicles. We find Twig, now sixteen years old, on his father's sky ship. His mission is to collect stromphrax, a substance needed to save the city of Sanctaphrax from floating over the edge. Once again Twig is involved with many creatures and adventures along his mission. The illustrations of Chris Riddell bring life to this second book also.

A well written fantasy about Twig,a foundling raised as a Woodtroll and the world of the Edge. The first book finds Twig wondering why he is different from everyone around him. He discovers he is really not a Woodtroll and sets out to find his way in the world. He does what Woodtrolls are not supposed to do and strays from the path. He meets many creatures good and bad along his journey. There are Woodtrolls, Caterbids, Gloamglozers, Sky Pirates and more.
The illustrations in the book bring the characters to life and add an enjoyable touch to reading the Edge books.
