Rinaldi, Ann. The Education of Mary.

In 1832, slavery is illegal in Conneticut but racism remains in other forms. This book tells the story of Prudence Crandall's school for "misses of color". Mary Harris and her sister Sarah were students at her school. This book tells the stories of the struggles Mary faced to get her education and the motives behind the characters involved in the abolitionist movement, the Underground Railroad and the early civil rights battles. It is a well written and interesting book.
